Hey y’all! I’m Alexis, the person behind the camera of Alexis Bedenbaugh Photography.
It’s hard writing about yourself! I guess I just wanted to give you a little bit of a background as to who I am, where I come from, and my photography style. Here we go!
I’m Alexis, a 24 year old wedding and couples photographer based out of St. Pete, Florida. I’m originally from a small town called Iron River, Michigan that has a whopping population of 2,800. I lived there my whole life until I went to college for Public Relations in the lower peninsula of Michigan. Ask anyone who’s from Michigan where they’re from and they’ll show you on their hands.
Couples and wedding photography fell very naturally into my lap because I’m a hopeless romantic myself. My now husband and I met our freshman year of college. We lived across the hall from each other and I was MAJORLY friend-zoned for about a year. He would literally come to me with girl problems, I’m not kidding. But then over Christmas break one year he had a come-to-Jesus moment and realized that he was madly in love with me!! We dated for just over two years when I left to study abroad in Ireland for two months. To my absolute surprise, I was ordering a drink at a pub one evening and I get a tap on my shoulder and turn around and it’s FREAKING TROY. I had so many questions! He didn’t have a passport?? How is he here?? Am I hallucinating?? I was just excited he joined me in the fun of abroad life and thought it ended there!
I had no idea. He then proceeded to tell me that he booked a bed and breakfast (B&Bs are now my favorite thing) on the Cliffs of Moher and we were to leave in the morning (!!!). The next morning at 5am we hiked from our BnB to the Cliffs of Moher, being the only two on the whole cliffs for about two hours. When we were halfway through hiking the cliffs he proposed. It was so so so perfect.
Fast forward, we had the most emotional, love filled wedding in my hometown right after I graduated. Our friends and family came from all over the US to be there for our outdoor wedding in a local State Park. We had so many people pray over us that weekend, played way too much spikeball, and probably permanently smelled like smoke from hours spent around a campfire. Two days after we got married, we packed up a 5×8 uhaul and road tripped to St. Pete, Florida and haven’t looked back since.
I am definitely a go-getter, a boss lady, whatever you want to call me. So not having a job lined up moving to Florida was a HUGE step of faith for me. But I’ve never known so much peace in a time where I should have been so so so anxious with the unknown. A few jobs and years later, I had my “Aha!” moment and realized that I really did picture myself taking photos of love stories for the rest of my life.
So I’ve been slowly but surely working up my clientele here in Florida and back home in Michigan with the most beautiful couples. I still can’t believe that people want ME a part of their big day. I can’t think of a bigger honor!
Growing up surrounded by nature, made it very natural for the natural environment to take on a huge theme in the way I capture couples. Infusing nature into love is very second nature to me.
And being outside is a large part of my personal life too! My husband and I try to surf as much as possible (we call ourselves weekend warriors) and take our golden doodle for all the walks and beach swims. You’ll also catch me gardening, reading, being competitive in everything, and thrifting.I hope to keep sharing more of myself and my family’s adventures with you moving forward!
